The party was founded and is led by [[Avigdor Lieberman]], an immigrant from [[Moldova]]; the party primarily is made up of [[Russian language|Russian]]-speaking Jewish immigrants from the former [[Soviet Union]] and, as such, caters to their interests. Lieberman is currently Deputy Prime Minister to [[Benjamin Netanyahu]] and Foreign Minister of Israel.

Yisrael Beiteinu holds a right-wing and nationalist point of view, and is opposed to most pro-Palestinian affairs. However, Lieberman has proposed a land-swap deal whereby primarily Palestinian towns near the Israeli-Gaza border would become part of a Palestinian state, and primarily Jewish towns would be removed from Gaza.
