The series has been seen by some as an expose of the post-[[Cambridge Spy Ring]] culture, a discussion of 1960s [[counterculture]], an entertaining spoof [[spy series]] and possibly as an allegory for how society forces us all to conform and how it oppresses and ultimately absorbs the differently minded.
