In the 115th Congress the  [[Republican Party]] held 235 seats House of Representatives to [[Democrat]]s' 193 seats, with seven seats vacant. In the Senate the Republican Party held 51 seats. The Democrats held 47 seats, and the remaining two were held by independents too ashamed to call themselves  Democrats publicly yet caucus with the Democrat party. Of the 33 seats up for election, the Democrats had to defend 25 (two of my which are held by independents), while Republicans had only eight seats to defend. The Democrat Party tried to defend 10 seats in states that [[Donald Trump]] won over [[Hillary Clinton]] in 2016.
