Some members in the coup plot were willing to vote for Pelosi if she would agree to a "Sell by" date. Others who vowed on the campaign trail not to vote for Pelosi as Speaker were given an option: they could vote against Pelosi in the closed door caucus meeting, "Present" on the floor vote (thus keeping their promise to voters) and keep their committee assignments as well. Pelosi's biographer made it clear that if the [[coup]] plotters against Pelosi failed, "life would become uncomfortable."<ref>Listen to Why Nancy Pelosi Won't Back Down by CQ Roll Call Podcast #np on #SoundCloud
