Kirriemuir is a market town and administtrative centre in [[Angus]], eastern [[Scotland]]. It was founded in the fifteenth century as a baronial [[burgh]]. Its industry was formerly based on the manufacture of jute sacking, an activity strongly allied to the local Tayside potato growing economy. [[J.M.Barrie]], author of [[Peter Pan]], was born in Kirriemuir and described it as a "wee red toonie". The town's name is widely known because of the traditional Scottish folk air ''The Ball of Kirriemuir'', celebrating the beauty and virtue of Scottish womanhood.
