Allgood came to Louisiana College in 1959 as basketball coach and assistant [[football]] coach. He led the Wildcats basketball team until 1985. From 1965 to 1998, he coached the baseball team at his namesake Billy Allgood Field.  He led LC teams in both basketball and baseball to National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics national tournament berths. For thirty-one years, he was the LC athletic director.  His greatest coaching victory came in baseball on March 15, 1994, when by a score of 7-5 the Wildcats upset defending national champion [[Louisiana State University]] in [[Baton Rouge]]. This marked the first time an NAIA school had defeated the current National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I national champion.<ref name=naia/>
