Global warming was part of the anti-Reagan anti-capitalist pro-Soviet pro-KGB Democrat left movement of the 1980s and was picked up by public school teachers and university professors. :I guess you can start the story at any point you like. Carl Sagan and other Venus researchers kicked this issue off in the 1960s. Sagan claimed Venus was suffering from a greenhouse effect and asked whether Earth could become another Venus. On Earth, the environmentalists adopted an agenda of conservation and renewables in the 1970s in response to the energy crisis. Mechanical engineer Stephen Schneider noticed that Sagan's theory provided additional support for environmentalist policies. The environmentalist movement worked out the new political strategy in a series of meetings sponsored by the Union of Concerned Scientists in 1978. When the energy crisis dissippated in the early 1980s, the focus of the movement shifted to global warming.  [[User:PeterKa|PeterKa]] ([[User talk:PeterKa|talk]]) 22:22, 3 January 2019 (EST)
