Following the death of her husband Prasutagus, the Iceni ruler, Boudicca was flogged on the orders of the new Roman Governor of Britain and her daughters were [[rape|raped]]. Bioudicca launched upon a war,slaughtering four [[Rome|Roman]] legions and razing (burning) the [[Roman]] cities of Colchester (Camulodunum), St Albans (Verulamium) and [[London|Londinium]]. She killed every Roman citizen she found in the city and threw their heads into the [[Thames River]]. One of the skulls can be seen on display in the Museum of London. She is usually depicted riding a [[chariot]] with [[scythe]]s attached to its wheels. [[Tacitus]] describes her sympathetically, stating that she was ''terrifying of mien'' and that she had red hair.
