'''Waskom''' is a small city in east [[Texas]], located on the border of Texas and [[Louisiana]].
In June 2019 Waskom passed an ordinance which declared the city to be a "sanctuary city" for the unborn, making it illegal to perform [[abortion]]s or operate an abortion clinic within the city. There are no such clinics in the small city -- the nearest clinic is 20 miles away in [[Shreveport]] -- and in any event the ordinance would not be effective until and unless [[Roe v. Wade]] was overturned.
