Dexter is served by the Dexter R-XI School District, a PK-12 public institution. It consists of four schools:
-Southwest Elementary School (PK-2)
-Central Elementary School (3-5)
-T.S. Hill Middle School (6-8)

The district enrolls about 2,100 students. Its mascot is the Bearcat.
