'''A Country Boy Can Survive''' is a 1982 song by Hank Williams Jr. Though it didn't make #1 (it peaked at #2) it is by far one of his most recognizable songs.

The song talks about the self-reliance of rural folks. Its notable second verse talks about the singer's unlikely relationship with a [[New York City]] businessman; despite their differing backgrounds the two are good friends who regularly exchange gifts. Sadly, the businessman is killed by a mugger with a switchblade for $43; the singer would like to spit chewing tobacco in the mugger's eyes before killing him.

After the September 11 attacks the song was rewritten as "American Can Survive" (with the businessman being a victim of the attacks).
