Lindbergh visited Germany in 1938 and was impressed by and spoke favorably of the German air force. He accepted a medal from Hermann Goering for his services to aviation. He attracted criticism because it appeared that he did not have strenuous objections to the Nazi cause, and some regarded him as a Nazi sympathizer. Lindbergh strongly opposed U.S. entry into the Second World War, and advized that if the U.S. should enter, it should do so on the side of Germany.
