The Contras were a collection of guerilla groups and political parties opposed to the [[communist]] government of [[Nicaragua]] in the 1980s. The [[United States of America|United States]] under President [[Ronald Reagan]] covertly supported the Contras and their death squads.
The contras were a terrorist organization that was comprised of former members of the Nicaraguan dictator Anastasio Somoza's National Guard, who killed between 30,000, and 50,000 people, that was commited to the destruction of the government of Nicaragua.
