Butler was elected to the state House of Representatives in the nonpartisan blanket [[primary]] held on October 12, 2019. With  8,880 votes (60 percent), Butler defeated two [[Democratic Party|Democrats]], "Phil Cowboy" Lemoine who received 3,920 votes (27 percent) and Taranza Arvie (born 1962) of Ville Platte, who polled 1,965 (13 percent). Mrs. Butler has owned and operated three businesses in Evangeline Parish for more than thirty years and has been heavily involved in economic development activities. For more than eight years, she has been a member of the Evangeline Parish Board of Tourism. She has been vice chairman of the Evangeline Parish Foundation. She sits on the advisory board for the Cabot Corporation in Ville Platte.
