Butler was elected to the state House of Representatives in the nonpartisan blanket [[primary]] held on October 12, 2019. With  8,880 votes (60 percent), Butler defeated two [[Democratic Party|Democrats]], "Phil Cowboy" Lemoine who received 3,920 votes (27 percent) and Taranza Arvie (born 1962) of Ville Platte, who polled 1,965 (13 percent). For more than eight years, she has been a member of the Evangeline Parish Board of Tourism. She has been vice chairman of the Evangeline Parish Foundation.
