Starring John Goodman and cast of nobodies.  The film is premised on the idea that Red States are populated by the likes of anti-gay followers of an allegorical preacher in the vein of [[Fred Phelps]] of the [[Westboro Baptist Church]] who performs ritual murder on gays ''ala'' [[Matthew Sheppard]].  John Goodman of the [[ATF]] leads the federal government cavalry to the rescue, evoking the glorious image of the Clinton era [[Waco massacre]]. Critics called it one of the director's "Twitter rants fleshed out into film with equal portions of bile sprayed at both church and state"; "Messy, overwritten, ...kind of a bore....it's not a horror movie by any usual definition. More like teen horror movie morphs into Waco disaster"; "fails onscreen and off at its world premiere ... A shoddy film and a bait-and-switch event fail to satisfy on any level"; "it's clear that the smart alec writer still has some things to learn about making a great film."  Red State won the Best Motion Picture award at the 2011 Sitges Film Festival, while Michael Parks was named Best Actor.
