Sarah Sims studied at Campbellsville College, as the institution was formerly known. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in 1989. In 1990, she received a [[Master of Arts]] from Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond. She joined the Campbellsville faculty in 1993; in 2003, she completed her [[Ph.D.]] from the [[University of Kentucky]] at Lexington. Sims attributed the guidance of her professor and future colleague [[Robert Doty]], who first approached her about entering a Ph.D. program. "Every class I teach includes material I learned from him. So much of the best of what I know and do, I owe to him. Dr. Doty was an intellectual giant and irreplaceable mentor and friend. To have worked and studied with him is an immense blessing."
