Kennedy Townsend grew up the eldest of 11 children. Like a typical Kennedy, Kathleen grew up with all the privileges of money and power. She attended the prestigious Putney School in Vermont and [[Harvard]]. She later graduated from the University of New Mexico School of Law and received her J.D. in 1978.<ref>[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kathleen_Kennedy_Townsend Kathleen Kennedy Townsend via Wikipedia]</ref><ref>[http://www.msa.md.gov/msa/mdmanual/08conoff/ltgov/former/html/msa12084.html Maryland State Archives: former Lt. Oddly enough her name was given to her in honor of her aunt whom she never met named Kathleen Cavendish, who died in a plane crash 1948. Other Kennedys have been in plane crashes as well such as her uncle Senator [[Ted Kennedy]]<ref>[https://abcnews.go.com/Technology/story?id=8271369 Edward M.
