Minneapolis police force
 +

 +
I'd like to get some clarity on the plans to abolish the Minneapolis Police Department, reported on our front page (right side).
 +
* In a unanimous vote, the Minneapolis City Council officially approved a measure to abolish the police force on Friday. Though the 12-0 vote will not completely dismantle the police force, it is the first step in a lengthy process that will culminate in the residents of the Minnesota city voting on the legislation in the November election ...
 +
Specifically, I'd like to ask:
 +
#how many police officers have been terminated since the 12-0 vote?
 +
#when does the plan take effect?
 +
#is it definite - or does it require a majority of YES votes on a referendum in November?

:Shooting from the hip I'd say whatever the name of the new organization will be, will likely employ even more people.  There will be more social workers and mental health evaluators and workers. Serious crimes, like the homicide unit, are likely to survive intact. The beat cops will be reduced, allowing for more shoplifters, etc..  Businesses will just have to hire their own security and pursue civil claims.  Public drunkenness will be responded to by social workers.  Even traffic cops are likely to be retrained. DUI will likely not be as strictly enforced, until there's a public outcry to beef it up.
 +

 +
:The idea apparently is to employ more community workers who hang out at community centers and go into people's homes to make nice with people and tell them how much the government loves them, but have the ability at the drop of dime to call out whatever is left of the SWAT team. ::I get the feeling that an early conservative in the group tasked with drawing up the Minneapolis city charter took a look at how socialists behaved in Wisconsin and said "uhn-uhn" and specifically insisted a mininum number of police to patrol the city, so the socialists couldn't extort what they wanted by starving the city of police.
 +

 +
::This is a way socialists "perform miracles"; through getting in a position of power to deny services, they extort and are suddenly and all at once able to both shower benefits to their supporting groups and indicate how they should behave.
 +

 +
::In fact, that's what the Pharisees did for the Jerusalem rabble, isn't it?  The Pharisees demanded that the Romans let them carry out a town lynching, and although Pilate clearly showed he didn't want to, by following the pharisees lead in how to behave, together they "performed the miracle" of even overpowering the Roman occupying government that their vanity be stroked by allowing them to overleap the bounds of justice and carry out the sentence immediately after an irregular trial. It was only when Jesus was shown to have no militant followers, in fact, no followers at all who even dared show their faces to comfort Him at the cross except the women and John, that many realized they had made a mistake and, as Luke put it, beat their breasts and went home.
 +

 +
::I realize this may seem an unusual way of putting the Gospel story, but I've found sometimes I can see things I couldn't before if I see them from a different angle and in this case may benefit the light of our faith.
 +

 +
::In a way, didn't Christ shine a light on the corners of the terrors of these city lynching events in a similar kind of way as you might to the unillumined parts of a city and show to our amazement that there was actually nothing there at all that could separate us from the love of God?
 +

 +

:::You make a strong point; the alleged religious "conservative" Muslims in Minneapolis will have their own Mutaween or "religious police" (I link to Wikipedia cause I helped write the article).  Call it the Londonization of Minneapolis with No Go Zones. An eye has to be kept on  city foundation grants to see if they violate separation of church and state by giving money to a religious community for its own policing.
 +

 +
:::Here's what we know: the Mpls Police force is changing its name and hiring mental health experts; use of force training and doctrine will be re-re-re-re-re-reformed (it gets reformed after every high profile killing). Voters have to approve changes to the city charter, so get ready for the "change" advocates to begin saying it's not really change after all, but we need these re-re-re-reforms with a bigger government payroll.
 +

 +
:::Now, like the DFL, Minnesota doesn't have Republicans. It has Independent Republicans (IR). Like Black Lives Matter, the organization name is deliberately ambiguous. Is it a coalition of Independents and Republicans who oppose Democrat Farm Labor corruption, or does the name imply independence from the corrupt national establishment? It's likely the latter, given the stranglehold Democrats and Socialists have had on media for the past 100 years since the Progressive Era.  The name IR is a testament to how xenophobic Minnesota Democrats are toward outsiders.
   −
To begin, let's lay out the background facts. All potential enemies of the U.S. know that the best time to carry out a longtime design is in the months prior to a presidential election. Presidential election years essentially paralyze U.S. ability to react. For example, Russia's design on Abkhazia in the Summer of 2008. Or, if China wants Taiwan in addition to Hong Kong, the South China Sea, and portions of its border with India and Nepal, now is the time to act.
+
:::Minnesota has probably the highest voter participation rate in the United States - a remarkable achievement given the state's predominantly white, ignorant, and brainwashed population. 'Virtue signalling' ought to be the state motto on license plates given Land of Lakes has now redeemed itself from being racist. Like their native Swede forebears in contemporary Sweden, Minnesota Democrats are willing to commit suicide to prove how virtuous they are.  Unless indigenous Minnesota Republicans can come up with enough money to run ad campaigns to defend racist policing and prove they are not controlled by outsiders from the monopoly Rockefeller Trust of the Progressive Era, changes are likely to occur.
   −
So what is the significance vis-a-vis Afghanistan?
+
:::Anti-business "organizing" runs deep in Minnesota culture and its self image as "progressive"; in the 1970s when I lived there the  "power line protesters" made up most convention delegates and candidates on the ballot.  Why did they oppose powerlines and electricity across the state? Cause it evoked the image of Wall Street bankers trying to get right-of-ways across the state to build railroads a hundred years earlier (See Howard Zinn, A People's History of the United States for more details on the greedy capitalist J.P. Morgan).  RobSTrump 2Q2Q 12:32, 2 July 2020 (EDT)

So why are we still there?
+
::::I express opinions to RobS's missives the opposite as I do others': if I don't express an opinion, it probably means I'm thinking about it even more than if I've said something (because they are very much food for thought).
   −
Somebody must control the opium poppy and heroin trade. It is either us or our enemies. The global heroin trade cannot be eradicated. The War on Drugs is just window dressing, making idiot middle class taxpayers think the U.S. is fighting via interdiction the corruption of our children, but that's election year rhetoric, impracticable, and a waste of money (educating children is the only way to fight drugs).
+
::::Bearing that in mind, I'd just like to express the opinion, for now, that if you have the power to radically transform the police, it amounts as much to say you have the power to eliminate it altogether, and I don't believe anyone has that power, and to say so after a (hidden?) civil insurrection is as much to threaten the lives and welfare of all.
   −
So, if the U.S. intelligence agencies which control and profit from the global heroin trade (producing enough revenue to offset the cost of the strawman War on Drugs), do not control the heroin trade, who will? There are three competing candidates - (1) Islamic terrorists; (2) China; (3) Russia.  Whom do U.S. citizen taxpayers wish to give up control of a vital national security asset to?  Whom do U.S. citizen taxpayers wish to entrust with the lives, security, and futures of their children?
+
::::Is the state police allowed in Minneapolis according to this scheme?  I don't know. But that you don't know even before the proposal is issued to me tells you nearly everything you need to know about the underlying intentions of the resolution, even apart from the fact that it went outside the city charter.
   −
Forget China. Forget Islamist terror groups. Russia, Putin, and the global Russian mafia seems to be the best candidate to take over this $60 billion a year industry. Russia wants it.
+
::::Rob, I think many of us know about J.P. Morgan, but don't we also know about President Taft's trust-busting in that direction? VargasMilan (talk) Friday, 13:55, 3 July 2020 (EDT)
   −
Now we must revisit for a moment military doctrine. Russia gave up control of the global heroin trade in 1988 when they abandoned Afghanistan. Islamic terrorists took it over and benefitted. After 9/11, the CIA took it over and has run it ever since.
+
::::BTW Rob's descriptions of the political parties in Minneapolis certainly showed my lack of knowledge...I didn't know the Twin Cities were like a twin of Wisconsin.  I will be doing my best to get back up to speed, though. How does this relate to military doctrine?
+
:::::Howard Zinn blames capitalism and JP Morgan for the Panic of 1873 which threw the country into a "recession" before there ever were "recessions" (a collapse of the monetary supply and collapse of GDP growth are actually two different things, but Marxists don't care). The collapse supposedly was the result of a railroad Morgan was trying to build across Minnesota.  This is the pre-Trust busting era when Wall Street lobbyists gained "concessions" and right-of-ways of prime agricultural land from famers by the federal government, and the beginning Democrat inroads into Northern Republican states after the Civil War.
   −
In the Soviet-Afghan War, the Russians fought a Vietnam-style war with 25,000 deaths among ground troops. Russian military doctrine in the 1980s was twenty years behind the lessons the U.S. learned in Vietnam. Like us, they learned the hard way. Since the 1970s the U.S. has moved away from massed ground troops, which were used at Normandy, and in Vietnam, in favor of smaller, more specialized Special Operations Forces.  In the present Syrian conflict, Russia has demonstrated its military has replicated the U.S., again, and has caught up with highly mobile Special Operations forces rather than Vietnam-style massed forces which were devastating to them in the 1980s in Afghanistan. They have watched us. They have learned from us. They have caught up. They now feel confident enough to take over management of the global heroin trade, keep it out of the hands of jihadis and Chinese commies, profit from it, and relieve us of this burden that the U.S. taxpayer, media, and Trump don't want anyway. Only the American public needs a little incentive or push to trust Putin, rather than Xi Jinping or the militant Islamic terrorists, with destroying the lives of our children.  RobSTrump 2Q2Q 16:29, 30 June 2020 (EDT)

:::::No, it won't effect State Police. Nor the county sheriff or the 7 county Metropolitan Council I wrote about above or in the Archives pages. But knowing Minnesota's progressive history and the pride they take in Socialism (recall, the alleged centrist Amy Klobuchar repeatedly invoked the name Paul Wellstone, the Senate's only Progressive Socialist even before Bernie Sanders). They will load up a city charter amendment with all sorts of virtue signaling rhetoric.  The few remaining level-headed taxpayers who see through it will have white-flighted by election day (even middle class Blacks will have white-flighted to the suburbs, as they already were doing in the 1980s). They don't call it the MiniApple for nothing. These people really do see themselves more like cultured New Yorkers living in tandem with an oppressed underclass, more than Chicagoons which PBS calls "the Black Capital of the United States".  RobSTrump 2Q2Q 16:44, 3 July 2020 (EDT)

::Point of reference: My "Christ as lynched by Jerusalem" model was originated by theologian John Milbank; the technical and historical term he used and explained was the Homo Sacer legal term of Imperial Rome.  The article was "Christ the Exception" in New Blackfriars (July 27, 2007), vol. 82, iss. 969.  The article is available at this link.  However, it is no longer available for free.

::Milbank noted certain parts of the Gospel story with the legal authorities yielding led some theologians to actually feeling forced to regard parts of the story as fiction.  Milbank, by explaining the legal concept, shows why their actions are not necessarily unexplainable.  I got the feeling the realities of Roman cities, and actually the widespread law of ancient cities in general, would have been, and perhaps still is to us after them, painful for the writers of the Gospels to explain.
