Captain Jean-Luc Picard was the fictional captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise-D in ''Star Trek: The Next Generation,'' and ''Star Trek Generations.'' He would later command the U.S.S. Enterprise-E in ''Star Trek: First Contact,'' ''Star Trek: Insurrection,'' and ''Star Trek Nemesis.'' He is played by Patrick Stewart.
Picard is a stark departure from his predecessor, Captain James T. Kirk. While Kirk was more action-oriented and didn't mind getting his hands dirty, Picard is more ambassador like.
