The '''University of Denver''' is a private college located in [[Denver]], Colorado. Methodists founded it in 1864, making it the oldest independent private university in the Rocky Mountain Region of the United States. In 1880, it was renamed the University of Denver although its legal name continues to be "Colorado Seminary."
The Fritz Knoebel School of Hospitality Management had its first graduating class in 1946, making it one of the oldest college hotel school programs in the United States.
DU hosts 20 fraternities and sororities.
