However, in June 2015, McInnes used the common [[Southern]] libertarian arguments to defend the racist [[Confederate States of America]], which he believed seceded from the [[United States]] due to Northern aggression. He failed to note that the Confederate Constitution declared that the purpose of secession was to preserve the institution of [[slavery]] (see [[Confederate States Constitution]]). But he defended the Confederacy because, according to him, the [[American Civil War]] was about [[states' rights]], and [[Abraham Lincoln]] was a "[[racist]]."<ref>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbvDRY0O30E</ref> These are all seriously flawed arguments, but not racist arguments or the arguments of a racist.
