In 2008, the team became the first ever to go 0–16, however, the [[Tampa Bay Buccaneers]] were the first to not win a game in a season, going 0–14 in their inaugural 1976 season (the NFL went to a 16-game season in 1978).

The Detroit Lions have won four NFL championships, all prior to the advent of the [[Super Bowl]]; they are one of four franchises never to have appeared in the Super Bowl (and one of two – along with the Cleveland Browns – to have been in existence prior to the Super Bowl, yet never participated in it).
