Yes, I am aware that Reagan was actually elected in 1980, but it was the [[Southern Strategy]] that made his victory and re-election possible, not just Carter's incompetence. It is my contention, in fact, that a [[Sixth Party System]] came into existence at that time, although its full implications would not become clear until 1980. That became the strategy of the GOP as a result of the 1968 election.
