The largest city in the county is Middlesbrough, followed by [[York]], for which the Yorkshire region is named, though both are administratively separate from the county government; the largest town to be administratively a part of the county is Harrogate, followed by Scarborough and then Northallerton, which is also the county town.

 

Noted for its scenery, which includes forests, moorlands, and the [[North Sea]] coast, about 40 percent of the county is included within various national parks, most notably the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors.
