[[File:The James Webb Space Telescope Face On (29548684133).jpg|thumb|The mirror of the James Webb Space Telescope]]'''James Webb Space Telescope''' is a space telescope intended as a successor to the [[Hubble Space Telescope]]. The telescope was built by NASA in cooperation with the Canadian and European space agencies. The telescope's mirror is 6.5-meters in diameter, compared to Hubble's 2.4-meter mirror. It will observe from the Earth–Sun L₂ Lagrange point, which is beyond the orbit of the moon. A sun shield will allow the telescope to investigate the infrared spectrum free from the interference of radiation from the Earth and Sun.

The project's goals include study of the early universe, the life cycle of stars, the life cycle of galaxies, and planets beyond the solar system.<ref>[https://www.jwst.nasa.gov/content/science/index.html Webb Telescope Science Themes], NASA.</ref> The launch date has been delayed several times, but is currently scheduled for October 2021.
