The Summers area of the game had a location called the Stoic Club where its members stared at a glittering rock and proceeded to philosophize, with the player being required to visit the location to get a man's wife to make Magic Cake and by extension recruit the character Prince Poo. The overall event was a brutal satire on philosophy, particularly the more left-wing type of philosophy such as [[Marxism]], [[Freud]]ianism, and other examples, as a blonde man, implied to be an adherent to Communism, expresses bafflement at someone's denial of the inevitable final collapse of Capitalism (as a further bit of irony, the game itself had been released three to four years after the collapse of the USSR and Eastern Bloc countries), and the two wait staff also inferred that, while otherwise playing along, they thought the whole thing was stupid and didn't see the point. The post-game revealed that the Stoic Club was shut down due to lack of sales, and replaced with a truckstop themed tavern.

The battle against the final boss, Giygas, which takes place in the past where he must be killed before becoming too powerful as he is in the present, is often theorized as a metaphor for [[abortion]]. Per this interpretation, the onscreen patterns of his distorted face supposedly form the outline of a fetus.
