==Gliders in Warfare==
Gliders played a large role in [[World War II]]. They were used by the Axis as well as the Allied forces. The first major glider-based attack was in May of 1940 on the Belgian fortress of Eben Emael when 78 German 7th airborne division landed in gliders and then defeated the fortress' garrison of 1,200 men. Gliders were also famously used during the [[D-Day]] attacks by American and British troops to land beyond the German defenses.
