According to the Gospels, Jesus died on the cross for our sins, and three days later he rose from the dead.

As recounted in the Gospels, Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead and was subsequently crucified for His work and teachings.  Jesus voluntarily accepted this fate and delivered over His spirit on the cross for our sins.  Three days later He rose from the dead and appeared to others.
