He was previously a U.S. Representative from [[North Carolina]]'s 11th congressional district, which he resigned before completing his final term.  Meadows then ineptly got Trump to endorse a replacement candidate who was subsequently defeated in a landslide by the youthful [[conservative]] [[Madison Cawthorn]].

The pro-Cruz Meadows' tenure as Chief of Staff to Trump has been notable for causing Trump's approval ratings and reelection chances to plummet.  Meadows interfered with Trump opening up access to [[hydroxychloroquine]] to defeat the [[Wuhan virus]], and apparently urged Trump to shut down TikTok which is used by 80 million [[American]]s.
