The museum seeks to preserve the heritage and culture of area agricultural pioneers. The museum was established by the Lubbock County Commissioners Court, which gave Alton Burtis Brazell (1928-2016) the authority to collect machinery vital to the transformation of agriculture in West Texas. Brazell served as the Precinct 4 commissioner from 1958 to 1994. Thus far, he is the longest sitting commissioner in the history of Lubbock County.<ref name=findagrave>{{cite web|url=https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/159476809/alton-burtis-brazell|title=Alton Burtis Brazell|publisher=findagrave.com|accessdate=December 27, 2021}}</ref>
