Fenton is a fourth-class city with a mayor-council form of government, consisting of a mayor and a board of aldermen. The mayor and the board members (two from each of the city's four wards) are elected for two-year terms in alternating years. The mayor and the board appoint a city administrator as well as members of various boards and commissions.
