Allison was born in Wichita Falls and moved to Lubbock with his family shortly after a series of tornadoes devastated Lubbock on May 4, 1970. He graduated from Coronado High School there and attended Texas Tech University. He graduated from South Plains College, a community college based in Levelland, Texas.
