Originally called the [[Latin American]] [[Bible]] School, Sunset started with six students being trained as [[Spain|Spanish]]-speaking preachers. In 1963, the elders of the Sunset Church of Christ in Lubbock accepted oversight of the school and briefly renamed it the West Texas Bible School. In 1964, the name was changed to the Sunset School of Preaching, with instruction in English and Spanish.
