I just received my final grammar book. The excitement is raging!
I had a grammar book delivered to someone as I was not able to easily take the delivery at the time. And they gave it to me this past Sunday after returning from a vacation.
It is a classic. It is the [https://news.utk.edu/2012/03/07/hodges-harbrace-guide-70th-anniversary/ 70th-anniversary version of the Hodges Harbrace Handbook] and it is the 18th edition of this fine work. This grammar book has the longest history of any grammar handbook on the market. The Hodges Harbrace Handbook was produced by John C. Hodges in 1941. In 2012, it was one of the most widely used grammar textbooks and at the time it was estimated that 15 million students had used it.
Now that I have received this grammar book, I am going to begin my post-university study of grammar/writing. At my alma mater, I was a university writing tutor for four semesters for a for-credit course and each semester I received an A in the class. And later when I took some information systems management courses at a local college, I was a paid writing tutor. It was easy money because the students rarely/never showed up. It was a classic case of a liberal college wasting taxpayer money and I am sad to say that abetted this at the time. At the time, I wasn't a "true conservative" like I am now! On the [https://www.politicalcompass.org/test political compass] test I am slightly to the right of center and slightly libertarian.
I used a previous edition of this grammar book in my English 201 university course taught at a secular university. My English professor was a bit of a martinet because he did not grade on a curve and he had high standards. I will tell you a funny true story about him. I think he was an atheist and on the first day of class, he asked the class, "How many people go to a religious service once a week? Can I see a show of hands?" And then he said, "How many people go to a religious service twice a week? Can I see a show of hands?". Well, at the time, I went to church twice a week and so I raised my hand twice. So I was a marked man! So one day later in the semester he said to me something like, "User: Conservative, you are a Christian. What do you think of the Beatles?" Now given that the Beatles were a pretty popular group at the time to many people and that the group member John Lennon said something to the effect of "We are more popular than Jesus" which raised the ire of some Christians, he expected me to say something negative about the Beatles which would lower me in the eyes of some of my fellow classmates. Or perhaps he wanted to say some snide remark. But I totally parried his attack and launched a dismissive attack of my own by saying matter of factly with a smile on my face, "I really don't think about the Beatles." That was my first rhetorical jab at liberal/leftist atheist!
By the way, despite mainly writing the Conservapedia [[homosexuality]] and most of the articles that it links to, I rarely think about homosexuality too - especially since I largely avoid looking at the content of mainstream news outlets (Unless I am looking into a particular non-homosexuality related issue.).
