Had it not been for the sudden overthrow of [[President Viktor Yanukovich]], the United States was prepared to take the country down the path of the Syrian scenario.  A hybrid war did come into full swing with the 2014-2021 [[Donbas war]], and the [[NATO war in Ukraine]] beginning in 2022.
