Yes, the release was likely accidental. At least, that's what the evidence right now suggests. But if the CCP had appraised the world of the real situation, and not persecuted Dr. Li Wen Liang and the 7 other whistleblower doctors, as most other countries would have done, 100s of thousands of deaths could have been prevented. There will have to be a reckoning for that cover-up, which is the main issue here. All this shows the danger of totalitarian regimes.
