→‎Chapter 3: Adding synopsis of ongoing debate related to 3:14. Please note that I'm phrasing it in a manner of supposition for the time being, since there's no strong concurrence/consensus yet.

The word "dust," used in most English translations, [https://biblehub.com/hebrew/6083.htm corresponds to the Hebrew word עָפָר] ("aphar"), which also could be translated validly, in the English language, to the word "earth" (lowercased). While mainstream analyses of Genesis 3:14 can range anywhere from discussing snakes possibly losing legs to critters consuming decomposing bodies (which are the words of uninspired men), there is speculation that the true meaning is a symbolic reference, with the concept of the serpent eating dust corresponding to Satan consuming the Earth (in sin).
