:Or when Stephan Douglas said in the Lincoln/ Douglas debates, "when I trot him down to lower Egypt", Douglas was speaking of the scheduled debate in Cairo, Illinois, just up the river from Memphis, Tennessee. Memphis and Cairo (named after cities in Africa along the Nile) got their names in America in the 19th century because of their heavy black populations.
:Or Biden's famous quote, "Delaware is a Southern state." "We (Delawareans) Were on the South’s Side in the Civil War ...we couldn't figure out how to get to the South. There were a couple of states in the way.'" true, the Census bureau classifies Delaware as a Southern state, although most people think of it as New England. We are not bound but what the Census Bureau dictates.
:"The South" refers to a cultural identity, and not necessarily just geographical parameters. RobSGive Peace a chance 18:02, February 6, 2023 (EST)
