The festival started in 1970 as a Christian response to the [[Woodstock]] festival.  It continued in Wilmore until 2012 when it ceased operations due to financial difficulty.  It attempted a comeback in 2015 in Lexington (a much larger city) but failed.  However, in 2021 it revived, and returned to Wilmore.
