'''Sulla''' (138-78 BC) was a Roman General & dictator during the Republican period.  He won Rome's 1st civil war and his seizing of power as dictator is believed to have set a precedent that led to the seizing of power by [[Julius Caesar]] and the advent of the Emperors.  Reforms during his time gave the Senate more power.  He voluntarily gave up power and died of natural causes.
