The '''Chartres Cathedral''' is a cathedral in Chartres, [[France]], is one of the best-known [[Gothic architecture|Gothic]] structures in the world. Construction began in 1145, but on June 10, 1194 a fire destroyed most of the cathedral. Shortly after the fire, the construction work began anew.
It is prominent for its windows and detail in sculpture. The two towers on its west facade have different architectural designs because they were built 300 years apart and therefore reflect differences in architecture for their periods.
