The '''Mark ending''' -- the final chapter 16 to the [[Gospel of Mark]] -- has questionable authenticity after the first half of its verse 8. There is extensive commentary on the internet as to why verses 9-16 are not authentic, including the fact that these ending verses are not in the earliest manuscripts and are doubtful as to doctrine.

But the second half of verse 8 has received less attention. It is likewise probably not authentic. {{Mark|1|8}} reads:
