In April 2023 the Texas House Committee on General Investigating (which oversees all complaints against House Members) began an investigation into Slaton after reports surfaced that he had an "inappropriate relationship" with a 19-year-old intern.  On May 6, the Committee published its report on the matter and determined that the reports were true, and unanimously recommended that Slaton be expelled from the House.<ref>https://house.texas.gov/_media/pdf/committees/report.pdf</ref> The Committee then submitted a resolution calling for his expulsion<ref>https://capitol.texas.gov/tlodocs/88R/billtext/pdf/HR01542I.pdf#navpanes=0</ref>, signed by all five members. The vote to expel, had Slaton not resigned beforehand, was scheduled for May 9, 2023.
