Operation '''Shield and Arrow''' was a military operation by the [[IDF]] in the [[Gaza Strip]] against the "[[Palestinian]]" Islamic Jihad ([[PIJ]]) terrorist organization that began on May 9, 2023, the night of ''Lag Ba'Omer'', and ended five days later, on May 13. In the operation, the IDF killed six senior members of the Islamic [[Jihad]] in a series of targeted counterattacks, and more than 15 other terrorists in a blanket of fire and attacked hundreds of targets, including rocket launchers, mortars, command posts, and sites for the production of anti-nuclear weapons. The Islamic Jihad launched at [[Israel]] more than -1,400 artillery rockets and mortar bombs, but about a fifth of them failed and exploded in the Gaza Strip. The IDF carried out two successful operational interceptions using the "David Slingshot" system, and "Iron Dome" intercepted over 430 rockets with a 95% success rate.
