Donkey Kong is a primate character from the Mario games. He is the main villain of the 1981 arcade game, also named Donkey Kong. Like Yoshi and Wario, Donkey Kong has been given an established franchise of his own, especially since the creation of the game Donkey Kong Country.

Donkey Kong is a primate character from the Donkey Kong and Mario franchises. He is a creation of Rare, and Donkey Kong made his first appearance in the 1994 game Donkey Kong Country. Aside from being a character, Donkey Kong is a title previously held by Cranky Kong, who debuted in the 1981 arcade game Donkey Kong, but since Donkey Kong Country, Rare reimagined this Kong as an elderly member of the Kong Family and renamed him Cranky Kong. Since then, out of the two, Donkey Kong has made the most recurring appearances, both in Donkey Kong and Mario games alike.
