'''Big Sandy''' is a town in east [[Texas]].  It was founded due to two railroads intersecting there (and it remains a crossing for two major [[Union Pacific]] lines).

From 1973-1975 the local high school (the Big Sandy Wildcats, not to be confused with another high school in Deep East Texas named Big Sandy) won three state championships in football (the 1974 team were co-champions with Celina, a notable program in its own right, while the 1975 team set a then-national record 824 points over 14 games).  Notable players on that team were David Overstreet (who later played for the [[Miami Dolphins]]) and Lovie Smith (who later coached at the college and professional levels).
