The '''Xtreme Football League''' (also known as simply the XFL) is a spring professional [[American football]] league. It had a short-lived run in 2020, as [[Covid]] hit, when it was run by [[WWE]]. The league called itself "the way football was supposed to be played."<ref>http://www.officialxfl.com/index.asp</ref> However, the league fizzled out in 2001 after only one season. However, several players went on to other leagues and some were quite successful (such as Tommy Maddox and arguably the league's best known player, Rod "He Hate Me" Smith).

The XFL has signed an agreement with the NFL, however, and may extend some of the NFL's harm further.  Alternatively, it is possible that initially the XFL has had to "play ball" with the NFL in order to obtain television contracts, and that the long-term plan is to compete with the NFL.
