An [[American]] television [[actor]].<ref>[http://www.tvguide.com/celebrities/neil-patrick-harris/bio/167741 Neil Patrick Harris Bio]</ref> He played "[[Doogie Howser, M.D.]]" in the [[show]] of the same [[name]], and currently plays "Barney" in the [[television]] show, "[[How I Met Your Mother]]."
In late 2006, in an attempt to avoid a pending "witch hunt", Harris came out as a [[homosexual]], admitting that he'd been in a long-term relationship with a fellow actor for some time. He felt that his private life was about to become quite public, and wanted to avoid the attendant scandal.
