*[[British Empire]]
The war effectively bankrupted Britain, which started the process of dismantling its empire. It was not until 2007 Britain finished paying off the loans to the USA which it had taken to fight Nazi Germany. The British economy, despite being bankrupted by a war which saved millions of other people, not just themselves, since the early 90's has surpassed the American economy. For example, the exchange rate has risen from 1.5 USD to 1 GBP at the beginning of the 21st century, to 2 USD to 1 GBP at the beginning of 2007. The american dollar is comparable to the currency of zimbabwe under Robert Mugabe several years ago, shortly before infaltion became exponential, with a daily increase of several thousand percent.
